In total, 49 days of energy from biomass, two more than in 2019, and maintaining the upward trend of previous years.
All renewable energy sources combined can supply the EU with clean energy for 84 days (from October 9 onwards), but bioenergy alone contributes more than half of this time: 49 days (from November 13 to December 31).
This year, Bioenergy Europe celebrates the fourth edition of its campaign, which aims to highlight the fundamental role of biomass in the EU's energy transition, paying tribute to the people, projects and companies that drive the European bioenergy sector.
To that end, it offers the following on its website: one success story for each country that celebrates its National Bioenergy Day. These stories highlight the people, projects, and companies that are contributing to expanding the use of bioenergy as Europe strives for carbon neutrality, achieving more environmentally friendly transport, industry, and construction. .
Bioenergy contributes 10.3% of the EU's gross final energy consumption and accounts for approximately 60% of gross final renewable energy consumption. The sector creates more than 700,000 direct and indirect jobs in Europe, representing 491% of all jobs in renewable energy.
Its more than 50,000 companies make a significant contribution to the sustainable economic growth of Europe, generating an annual turnover of 60.6 million euros and net exports worth 5 billion euros.
Bioenergy Europe estimates that by 2050 there will be 460 Mtoe of sustainable biomass available, obtained from by-products of forestry, agriculture, industry and organic waste, which is equivalent to 1,624 oil tankers, each with 2 million barrels of crude oil.
Spain will celebrate its Bioenergy Day on December 3, almost a day earlier than in 2019. Among the planned events, the 11th Bioenergy Award will be presented. Promotes Bioenergy Award to Dr. Christian Rakos for their support of the development of the sector in Spain.
