The story of ENplus® is, to a large extent, the story of the professionalization of pellets as a reliable biofuel for millions of users. These are the main milestones that explain it:

2010–2014 | The foundations of the system

2010.- The German Institute DEPI The ENplus® system establishes the foundation for a common quality standard.
2011.- The European project PellCert, The initiative, coordinated by Bioenergy Europe, allows the scheme to be extended to all of Europe. It is published on first ENplus® Manual, which harmonizes criteria for producers and marketers.
That same year the first ENplus® certified in Spain, among them ES001 Pellet Asturias y ES004 Mosquera Villavidal, which are still active today.

2016.- The first ones are organized formations in situ for Quality Directors, expanding the technical support tools.
2018.- The certified volume exceeds for the first time 10 million tons pellets.
2019.- It is launched market surveillance program, which allows for the identification of deviations, verification of products, and reinforcement of control throughout the chain.
That same year, Spain assumed for the first time the Presidency of the European Pellet Council (EPC), a position that AVEBIOM has held ever since.
2020.- The system reaches the 1,000 certified companies worldwide, confirming its global status.

2021–2025 | Digitization, transparency and official recognition

2022.- The more in-depth review of the scheme, with reorganized documentation, new requirements and a more robust governance model.
2023.- More than 1,000 cases of fraud and the ENplus® digital certification platform, which improves traceability and management.
2024.- Launch of the mobile app ENplus®, which makes it easier for users to check certifications and report irregularities.
2025.- ENplus® receives the official recognition by the European Cooperation for Accreditation (EA), becoming the only accredited system for wood pellet quality.

Spain in the evolution of ENplus®

Spain has played a prominent role in the development of the system:

  • 2011: first national certifications, with pioneering companies that are still active.

  • 2019–2025: continued presidency of the EPC.

  • Present: he 65 % from Spanish factories They produce pellets under ENplus® certification, concentrating the 85 % of national production, This places Spain among the countries with the highest volume of certified pellets on the continent.

The history of ENplus® demonstrates a combination of technical rigor, continuous improvement, and international cooperation. The progressive introduction of more demanding audits, anti-fraud mechanisms, digitalization, and official accreditation has allowed certified pellets to become synonymous with quality and trust for millions of users in Europe and around the world.
