AVEBIOM begins 2024 reinforcing its commitment to the expansion of bioenergy and the bioeconomy in Spain and Europe

AVEBIOM comienza 2024 apoyando bioenergia y bioeconomia

Furthermore, in 2023, AVEBIOM signed a collaboration agreement with the Green Office of the city of Madrid, whose objective is to raise awareness among citizens of the importance of energy efficiency and sustainability; it has renewed its membership in Valladolid Climate Agreement, which includes the decarbonization roadmap for the Castilian city by 2030; and maintains the knowledge transfer network INtercamBIOM in Spain.

GThanks to the energy of the 546 members who are or have been part of the association over these 20 years, AVEBIOM has led the sustainable development of the bioenergy sector in Spain. Initially focusing on solid biomass, and now also in areas such as renewable gases and the bioeconomy—activities that are synergistic and vital for the country's decarbonization, and for which we will continue working for the next 20 years and beyond.

Promoting greater and more efficient use of solid biomass for energy in Europe

With Pablo Rodero in the Bioenergy Europe board of directors, AVEBIOM will continue to contribute to the further development of the potential of biomass in all its forms - solid, gaseous and liquid - so that Europe can enjoy greater energy independence in a sustainable and clean way.

In this regard, one of Bioenergy Europe's main lines of work in 2024 is to collaborate with the European Commission to define the details of the implementation of the EUDR, the European Regulation on Deforestation-free products, which directly affects the bioenergy sector.

Joining forces to support renewable gases

AVEBIOM has gladly accepted the recent invitation to to be part of the European Biogas Association, a growing sector in our country and for which we organize the Renewable Gas Show and the latest editions of the International Bioenergy Congress with the technical support of AEBIG.

Thanks to a well-established structure, AVEBIOM will be able to generate statistical analysis market data in Spain is collected directly from the renewable gas sector, as it already does in solid biomass, complementary to that produced by public bodies and which will serve to improve the understanding of this crucial sector.

Bet on the biochar as a method of reducing carbon in the atmosphere

Biochar, along with other systems for net reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere, will be essential to offset emissions from sectors that cannot be fully decarbonized, or that will take a long time to do so.

AVEBIOM has become member of the BIPS platform, AVEBIOM is the first association in Spain to bring together initiatives related to biochar, aiming to promote this promising use of biomass. In fact, several AVEBIOM members are developing and promoting technologies for obtaining biochar.

Since 2004, 546 companies and entities have been part of AVEBIOM. In 2024, the association has 175 members, 30 of whom joined in 2023.Suppliers of agroforestry biomass and its conditioning and distribution; manufacturers of equipment and components; installers, maintenance providers, and energy service companies; energy engineering and consulting firms; technology centers and universities; promoters of bioenergy projects; and processors of biomass for thermal, electrical, or renewable liquid or gaseous biofuels. These companies generate approximately €10 billion in revenue annually, with over 40% related to activities directly connected with bioenergy.
