In charge since 2019, Rodero will continue to represent the sector at a key moment for its consolidation in Europe, also reinforcing the role of AVEBIOM —founding partner of the EPC in 2010— in the European pellet market strategy in both the technical and institutional spheres.
The new board of directors boasts highly experienced technical profiles with international reach. They will be joined by Pablo Rodero during this new period Didzis Palejs, president of the Latvian association LATBIO, and Fahimeh Yazdan Panah, R&D director at the Wood Pellet Association of Canada, who is joining for the first time. In addition, there will be Matteo Favero, responsible for the area of lignous biofuels and certifications at the Italian association AIEL, as vice-president of the EPC, and Matthew Goodwin, director of the UK Pellet Council, elected last year.
Over the past few years, the EPC has strengthened its role as the leading authority on pellets at the European level. Although One of its main tasks is the management of the EN quality certification systemplus®, The Council also represents the interests of the sector before European institutions, especially in an increasingly demanding regulatory context.
In recent months, it has intensified its activity around directives and regulations such as EUDR, RED III, Ecodesign or Green Claims, with the aim of ensuring that regulatory evolution does not unfairly penalize a sector committed to sustainability.
In this new phase, the EPC will continue working to professionalize the governance of the ENplus® system, digitize management processes, expand access to specialized training and strengthen collaboration between the national pellet associations that make up the EPC.
“The EPC must continue to be the voice of the pellet industry in Europe. Not only to guarantee a quality market, but also to ensure that European policies recognize the value of pellets as a renewable and accessible solution for millions of citizens.”, points out Pablo Rodero.
The European Pellet Council is part of Bioenergy Europe and comprises national associations from 18 countries. In addition to coordinating ENplus®, it promotes knowledge sharing, standards harmonization, and advocacy for the sector in Brussels.
AVEBIOM officially represents the system INplus® in Spain and plays an active role in building a reliable, transparent and growing pellet market.
