The renewable gas sector confirms its positive momentum and addresses new challenges

“In 2023, we experienced an edition full of euphoria, in which new projects were being developed that are now in full swing and facing different challenges. The technologies are mature, as demonstrated by the high level of our exhibitors and professional visitors; but now it is time to achieve the unconditional support of the administration and the full social acceptance of facilities that are essential to successfully complete our energy transition,”, summary JAVIER DÍAZ, president of the SPANISH BIOMASS ASSOCIATION-AVEBIOM, organizer of the show.

Most of the professionals who visited the trade fair were interested in learning about or expanding their knowledge of different technological solutions; thus, biogas production technologies were the area of greatest interest for 241% of attendees, while 10.51% of professionals came looking for technologies for upgrading to obtain biomethane. The show has attracted 291,000 visitors interested in promoting new plants or already operating facilities, and around a quarter of the attendees work in the raw materials management sector.

On the other hand, the 17th International Bioenergy Congress The event reached full capacity with a record attendance of 880 people, 101% more than in 2023. Ninety speakers presented the latest technological and market developments and discussed, with particular emphasis, concrete measures to complete the hundreds of projects already underway. These measures included streamlining permits, adopting best practices, and improving communication with citizens.

The final round table of the congress, dedicated to analyzing the value chain from raw materials to digested products, presented several success stories and highlighted the urgent need to expand communication channels with farmers and ranchers, the true pillars of any project.

In this sense, Blas Donis, The president of the UPA Palencia agricultural union stated that the primary sector in Spain is technologically advanced and open to adopting profitable options that allow them to comply with environmental regulations, but called for the conversation to be conducted honestly with its members. 

He 4th Renewable Gas Exhibition It reaffirms its position as a key event for the future of the renewable gas sector in Spain. The organizers are already working on the next edition in 2025 to continue promoting technological innovation and collaboration among all stakeholders involved in the sector's development.
