The forestry sector in Castile and León can benefit from European recovery funds

Mesa intersectorial de la madera se reune con el presidente de CyL

The president has assured that forestry activity could be one of the sectors most benefited by European recovery funds in the region, during the Teleconference meeting on November 9 with the Intersectoral Wood Committee MIMCyL, in which AVEBIOM participates representing the biomass sector.

The sustainable use of forests contributes to generating economic activity, especially in rural areas, providing direct employment to more than 10,000 people, which is key in the fight against depopulation in Castile and León.

The President of the Regional Government discussed the areas of work in which his government is making progress, or plans to do so, in its commitment to the forestry sector:

  • Update of the Forestry Plan of Castilla y León and the Forest Resource Mobilization Program.
  • Improvement of raw material supply, with the aim of achieving a production of 4 million cubic meters of wood in 2025, 30% more than at present.
  • Facilitation of procedures for private and patrimonial forests and for the consolidation of forest land.
  • VAT reduction on biofuels and biomass equipment. Requested jointly with other autonomous communities.
  • Review and update of the land registry for forest lands and modification of the Property Tax.
  • Promoting biomass to generate heat in public buildings.
  • Inclusion of the forestry sector in rural development programming.
  • Improved coordination and communication between the various departments and representative organizations in the sector.
