The project, promoted by SOMACYL, will replace the original boiler —operational for more than two decades— with state-of-the-art equipment fueled by local forest wood chips.
The new units are being installed by IMARTEC Energía., company integrated into Veolia Lecam, AVEBIOM's partner, in collaboration with the manufacturer Uniconfort, is undertaking the project. In addition to the boilers, the project will renew the fuel feed system using double-chain redlers; it includes the installation of a centralized ash extraction system and an advanced flue gas treatment system. These improvements are complemented by upgrades to pumping efficiency, the renewal of the electrical installation, and the adaptation of the power plant building.
This intervention will reinforce the operation of one of the pioneering biomass heating networks in Spain, extending its useful life and ensuring a stable and sustainable thermal supply for connected public facilities and homes.
The Cuéllar district heating network began operating over 20 years ago to supply renewable heating to municipal buildings and later expanded its service to residential communities. Its implementation was one of the first examples of using forest biomass for heating in a municipality, setting an early precedent for other urban networks that have been developed in the last decade.
