AVEBIOM He has defended the energy valorization of forest biomass as a strategic tool to advance the energy transition and reduce the risk of fires in Castilla y León.

During the meeting, the members of the Roundtable agreed that regulatory gridlock and the lack of effective forestry planning are hindering the development of the entire forestry and timber value chain in Castile and León. This situation, they warned, limits industrial activity, reduces employment opportunities, and contributes to the depopulation of rural areas.

The MIMCYL recalled that Comprehensive and sustainable forest management would generate more than 5,000 direct jobs., This would strengthen the sector's competitiveness and its contribution to rural development, energy transition, and climate change mitigation goals. Furthermore, it warned that insufficient harvesting increases the risk of large forest fires by promoting biomass accumulation in forests.

Representatives of the sector demanded an urgent response from the Junta de Castilla y León to unblock forest management, simplify administrative procedures, and activate public and private investments aimed at forestry uses and their industrial transformation.

Among the proposals put forward is the Mandatory use of biomass as an energy source in public buildings, This measure would create stable demand, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and improve the efficiency of public spending on heating.

The energy valorization of forest biomass contributes to increasing the viability of forest harvesting, structurally reducing the risk of fires, and generating local renewable energy to replace imported fossil fuels. Integrating bioenergy into forestry and industrial policies allows for closing the bioeconomy loop, creating stable employment in rural areas, and improving the territory's adaptive capacity.
