Navarre promotes the use of biomass in the residential sector

Centro logistico de biomasa en Aoiz Navarra comienza en 2022

With the construction of the pilot center for the transformation and supply of forest biomass in Aoiz, the regional government intends to "progressively implement this green energy in residential parks, both public and private, to make them more sustainable.".

Their first clients will be the 524 protected homes of the 'Navarra Social Housing' rental plan, promoted by Nasuvinsa.

The center occupies 3,300 m2 and is located in a building acquired by Nasuvinsa in 2012. The construction represents an investment of €360,000. In 2022, it will begin processing, storing, and distributing wood chips, initially supplying the public residential sector, with the possibility of expanding the service to the private sector as well. The biomass will come from sustainably managed forests.

The event was organized in mid-September by the Lursarea Agency for Territory and Sustainability. Nasuvinsa, within the framework of the European project Promobiomasse, thanks to which the construction of the logistics center has been promoted.

The event was attended by the Vice President and Minister of Territorial Planning, Housing, Landscape and Strategic Projects of the Government of Navarre, José María Aierdi, the mayor of Aoiz, Ángel Martín Unzué; the managing director of Nasuvinsa, Alberto Bayona; the Director General of Strategic Projects of the Regional Government, Rubén Goñi; and representatives from the public and private sectors linked to biomass and from the partner and associated regions of Promobiomasse, led by Nasuvinsa and its agency Lursarea. Pablo Rodero, from AVEBIOM, and Elena Baeza, head of the Forest Management Section of the Government of Navarra, provided a technical perspective.

José María Aierdi asserted that the project is a milestone in transforming biomass into a sustainable, locally produced, and competitive alternative, and a key link in the process of progressively decarbonizing cities, a fundamental measure in the Navarre Ecological Transition Strategy / Navarre Green.
