The main modules and equipment are already in production and final assembly will take place in 2026.
During the second year, the consortium has completed the characterization of the e-methanol value chain for maritime transport and has developed TRIDENT, It's a tool that allows for the analysis of technical, economic, and environmental scenarios. The first internal version is currently in testing, and its open-access release is planned for March 2026.
The CERTH and RINA centers have made progress in techno-economic, environmental and social studies for the port cases of Valencia y Thessaloniki, with initial results to be presented in 2025. These assessments will serve to define realistic roadmaps for the implementation of new e-methanol value chains in European ports.
A European consortium focused on sustainable marine fuels
With 19 partners from seven countries, POSEIDON aims to demonstrate the viability of e-methanol as a renewable fuel for maritime transport. Funded by the European Union with €9.7 million, the project will run until 2027 and will now focus on demonstration activities, scenario assessments, and recommendations for its deployment.
