Wood pellet
In the fourth quarter of 2020, pellet prices for domestic use fell slightly to levels very similar to those of the previous quarter in all formats analyzed except bulk in tankers, which has risen by 1%.
Despite the two weeks of intense cold brought by Storm Filomena, it hasn't been a particularly low-temperature winter, and factories are still selling off stock from the previous season. This is one of the reasons why prices are remaining stable instead of the usual increases seen at this time of year.
In the Levante and southern regions of Spain, temperatures have been abnormally high, which, together with the decline in tourism in these areas, where there are many second homes with stoves installed, has also led to a lower consumption of pellets than usual.
If the current situation continues, prices may drop even further and stock will accumulate for the next season.
In the fourth quarter of 2020, the price of the 15 kg bag fell by -0.6% (from €4.36/bag to €4.34/bag), accumulating a decrease at the end of the year of -1.2%.
The price drop has been slightly greater for full pallets, falling from €283.37/t to €280.78/t, a decrease of 0.91%. In 2020, this format saw its price decrease by 1.71% compared to the previous year.
In bulk formats, the opposing trends continue, although they are not very significant: -0.2% for the price of bulk pellets delivered by tipper truck and a slight increase of 1% for bulk pellets delivered by tanker truck. Considering the full year's performance, prices for bulk formats have decreased considerably: -2.3% for tipper truck deliveries and -2.9% for tanker truck deliveries.

Average prices to the end consumer include VAT (21%) and an average transport distance of 200 km for bulk pellets. Pellet prices were requested in three different formats: 15 kg bags, pallets of bags (€/ton), and bulk pellets (€/ton); and classes A1 and A2, corresponding to ISO 17225-2, were considered.
Prices are expressed in €/ton and €/kWh; the latter unit of measurement facilitates comparisons with the costs of fossil fuels such as diesel or natural gas. To calculate the cost per unit of energy content, a calorific value of 4100 kcal/kg (4.76 kWh/kg) for the pellet has been considered.
The transport costs have been calculated using the coefficients published by the latest “Road Freight Transport Cost Observatory”, published by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.
To obtain the average values, extreme values that are more than 3 times the standard deviation away from the mean have been discarded.

Olive pit
Olive pit prices during the fourth quarter of 2020 remained stable compared to the previous quarter and showed virtually no variation throughout the year.
The individual bag format has increased by 0.4% during the fourth quarter, but has decreased by -0.1% during the year 2020.
The price of a full pallet rose by 0.8% in the fourth quarter, and by 0.1% over the course of the year. As for bulk goods, olive pit prices fell by -1% and -0.5% for tipper and tanker deliveries respectively in the last quarter of the year.
Referring to the full period of the year compared to 2019, prices also fell: -0.8% and -0.5% for tipper and tanker respectively.
Given this year's olive harvest, which is larger than that of 2019, the medium-term trend will be towards stable prices or even a slight decrease if the weather remains the same.

The The sampled sales formats are the same as those for wood pellets, except for the bag, which varies frequently in weight for this biofuel. An average transport distance of 200 km is also established for bulk shipments.
Classes A1 and A2 of the Spanish standard for bone, UNE 164003, have been considered., or its equivalent in the BIOmasud certification, class A, and prices have been requested for the current quarter.
To calculate the cost per energy content, a calorific value of 4,100 kcal/kg (4.76 kWh/kg) for the olive pit has been considered.

Standardized types A1 and A2, according to ISO 17225-4, were considered, with a moisture content below 35% and a particle size distribution of P31S – P45S (G30 of the former Önorm). In this case, a transport distance of 100 km was considered.
To calculate the cost per energy content, a calorific value of 3,800 kcal/kg (4.42 kWh/kg) for the wood chips has been considered.
