MAGNON, in collaboration with ErasmoPower2X and Power2X, drives in Puertollano (Ciudad Real) a pioneering e-methanol production project, a carbon-neutral synthetic fuel that will combine green hydrogen y biogenic CO₂ captured at your biomass power generation plant.
The project will be integrated into the facilities that Magnon operates in Puertollano and will be connected to the future Spanish Hydrogen Backbone Network, which will develop Enagás as Provisional Manager of the Hydrogen Transport Network, according to Royal Decree-Law 8/2023. This network will link the main points of production and consumption of green hydrogen in Spain.
Renewable hydrogen will be produced in Saceruela (Ciudad Real), where ErasmoP2X and Power2X are developing a 1 GW photovoltaic project and an electrolysis plant. Combined with the biogenic CO₂ generated at the biomass plant, this will allow for the manufacture of up to 200,000 tons of e-methanol per year, intended for industrial and energy uses.
The initiative will strengthen the renewable fuels value chain and promote economic activity and employment in Castilla-La Mancha, consolidating Spain's role as European leader in the production of green molecules.
E-methanol is destined to become a key vector for the energy transition, both for its ability to replace fossil fuels and for its potential use in the production of sustainable aviation fuels (eSAF), plastics or biochemical products.
