One of the main objectives is to show farmers the benefits of using waste that is currently unused.
The collection of corn crop residue is carried out using a Pöttinger or Kuhn windrower and a Massey-Ferguson baler. In the latest demonstration, held in the municipality of Fresno de la Vega, the machines were able to collect 6.8 tons of corn stalks per hectare, representing 601 TP3T of the stalks present in the field.
The process helps maintain sufficient organic matter in the soil and also offers significant economic and environmental benefits for farmers: removing coarse straw generates direct income, saves costs, and facilitates land preparation and sowing. Furthermore, it reduces the need for nitrogen for straw mineralization and for agrochemicals to combat pests and fungi that can affect grain quality.
The collected biomass will be used for the project's future plant. The Green Oak, which will consist of two facilities: Roblum, which will generate green energy with a negative CO2 balance from agricultural biomass, and La Robla New Energy, This plant, an archetype of the circular economy, will produce green e-methanol by combining CO₂ with green hydrogen. It will be the largest of its kind in Europe.
