The announcement was made during an institutional event held on December 16, 2025 in Villadangos del Páramo, on the occasion of the completion of the second phase of expansion of the industrial park, one of the largest in northern Spain.
A large-scale industrial project
Villadangos Green will involve a investment of 500 million euros and will occupy an area of 40 hectares, intended for the production of 140,000 tons of green e-methanol annually. The industrial complex will integrate a green hydrogen plant and one e-methanol synthesis plant, aimed at the decarbonization of heavy transport (especially maritime and air) and the chemical industry.
Part of the CO₂ needed for the synthesis of e-methanol will come from The Green Oak, Reolum's first plant in León, and will be transported to Villadangos del Páramo through a 37-kilometer pipeline, allowing the valorization of up to 200,000 tons of CO₂ per year.
In addition, a second pipeline for renewable hydrogen It will allow the interconnection of electrolyzers located in two industrial parks and provide a storage capacity of 12 tons.
The development of the industrial complex will have a significant impact on the territory, by creating around 400 jobs on average during the construction phase, peaks of up to 800 workers, and more than 60 direct jobs in the operational phase.
Institutional recognition and funding
The innovative nature of Villadangos Green has been recognized in various public programs. The project has been selected within the Hydrogen Valleys Program of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, has obtained the second best rating among the projects submitted to the state program of incentives for green energy and will include 87 million euros of financing charged to the European Next Generation funds. In addition, the European Commission has included it on its list of Projects of Common Interest.
