In a note published on its website, our partner Sugimat announces that it has recently supplied two thermal oil boilers for the first power plant that hybridizes solar thermal with biomass.
The 2 boilers of thermal oil biomass and 25 MW They will be hybridized with a field of cylindroparabolic mirrors that will also produce electrical energy thanks to concentrated solar power technology.
The project uses biphenyl as a special heat transfer fluid (HTF), capable of working at high temperatures.
With an overall plant performance exceeding 90%, this project marks a milestone in the history of Sugimat, which was already a world leader in fossil fuel biphenyl boilers.
Developing biomass boilers with working temperatures of 395ºC is a significant technological challenge that the company has met in record time.
Solar thermal energy is a renewable energy source based on heating a thermal fluid by concentrating solar radiation using mirrors.
This thermal fluid produces steam through exchange with water and generates electricity using a turbine.
Hybridizing solar thermal energy with biomass allows for an increase in the operating time of the 150% plant.
In this way, a non-manageable energy asset such as a concentrated solar power plant is transformed into a manageable one, since the plant can continue producing electricity at night or on days without sun.
Furthermore, Sugimat has developed the rest of the plant's elements on a turnkey basis: the combustion system by mobile grill, economizers, integrated control system and emissions treatment.
