Webinars on the energy use of biomass

Webinar Apropellets

On June 18, the technical secretary of Apropellets, Fernando Hernández, gave a webinar dedicated to the importance of pellet certification under the title: «Certified wood pellets, the biomass of the 21st century. Situation in Spain and opportunities.

Fernando Hernández holds a degree in Physics from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He is an independent consultant specializing in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and bioeconomy. He has worked in R&D consulting, the photovoltaic industry, and engineering.

Other webinars: Residual biomass

On May 5th, the industrial engineer and founding partner of Bioliza, José Antonio La Cal gave a webinar dedicated to exploring the energy possibilities of residual biomass., from the origin of the resource and the processes for its conversion to the products that can be obtained and their main energy applications.

Solid biomass, biogas, syngas, and biofuels are renewable energy sources that will need to be developed in the coming years for various reasons, such as their manageability, which allows them to compete with fossil fuel power plants; the diversity of technologies that allow their use (combustion, gasification, pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion, etc.) and the quantity of products that can be obtained: pellets, wood chips, biogas, syngas, biodiesel, among others.

In the webinar, Available on the Institute's YouTube channel, José Antonio La Cal It addresses the profitability of using residual biomass from three points: economic, due to the reduction in costs; environmental, due to the reduction of CO2 emissions; and social, due to the employment it generates, especially in rural areas.

José Antonio La Cal holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering and is an Associate Professor at the University of Jaén. He is an international expert in bioenergy, with over 20 years of experience in the sector, encompassing teaching, academia, professional practice, and management.
