Los 104 vecinos de la comunidad de propietarios de Avenida del Ejército número 17 acaban de incorporarse como usuarios a la red de calor de Guadalajara, sustituyendo el gasóleo por biomasa. Esta decisión les permitirá un importante ahorro económico y, además, dejar de emitir 199 toneladas de CO2 cada año y contribuir así a mejorar sustancialmente la atmósfera de la ciudad.

REBI asegura que además de las 1.500 viviendas que ya están conectadas a la red, en este momento hay otras 1.600 que están pendientes de recibir la energía.
Esta red de calor es capaz de suministrar servicio de calefacción y agua caliente sanitaria a 6.000 viviendas, además de edificios públicos y no residenciales. Cuenta con cuatro calderas de 7 MW cada una, que utilizan astilla. Una vez alcanzado el número máximo de conexiones, la red generará 100.000.000 kWh anuales de energía; consumirá 25.000 toneladas de astilla forestal; permitirá reducir las emisiones de CO2 a la atmósfera en 15.000 toneladas anuales y, además, el mantenimiento y suministro de la infraestructura supondrá la creación de 60 empleos directos e indirectos.
